Many people to report the following problem: after running the installation program, either standard or alternate method, they got a new window showing some XML code instead of the program itself. This can be caused by multiple reasons, most usual being that your computer does not know how to handle ".application" files. The support for such files is normally added by a Microsoft add-on called .NET Framework 2.0.
Easiest solution is to install .NET Framework 2.0 first, before installing the vroute.info application. The .NET is an add-on from Microsoft which is required for vroute.info to operate, and normally it would be automatically downloaded during the installation. In some cases, this is was sufficient and the easiest solution was to install .NET Framework 2.0 manually from Microsoft website (download link).
If the above does not help, and your computer still does not properly handle .application files, press Start, Run, and paste the following line (one line of text):
rundll32.exe dfshim.dll,ShOpenVerbApplication
http://www.vroute.net/download/vroute.info.application
The above requires .NET 2.0 to run, but should bypass almost all possible sources of the problem.
